Building Control Services continue to operate as near to normal as possible

As you would expect we have however introduced measures to try to protect staff. This includes homeworking and risk assessing site visits.

Please help us by contacting us by email for advice, updates and inspection requests to: building.control@stroud.gov.uk or contact the business support team on 01453 766321 and select option 4 then option 2. The contacts page includes the building control surveyors mobile phone numbers and a list of the areas they cover. Please do not request inspections directly with the surveyors as they may not be available to action your request.

 

BUILDING REGULATIONS - ARRANGEMENTS FOR SITE INSPECTION NOTIFICATIONS

We are covering the majority of inspections, where these can be safely carried out following Covid 19 guidance and our risk assessment.

 

Booking Inspections:

Please book inspections by either email to building.control@stroud.gov.uk

or using our on-line Building Control Request Form

or by downloading and using the LABC App

or by texting the word Site followed by your site address, name and the Inspection type required to: 07851 729 229

(E.g. – SITE – 2020/1234 - 1 Ebley Mill, GL5 4ZZ – foundations – Dave)

or by contacting the business support team on 01453 766321 and select option 4 then option 2.

 

Inspection requests received before 15:00pm (weekdays) will be scheduled for the next working day, where possible. The Area Building Control Surveyor will give you a call before visiting site, with an approximate time the visit will take place.

Please supply the following information to assist with your booking: Reference Number, Site Address, Your Name, Contact Telephone Number and Inspection being requested.

 

Before Visiting:

We will ask Covid 19 related questions, to determine if anyone has symptoms of Covid-19; or is self-isolating following contact with a possible case or is in a vulnerable or shielded group. Where any of the above is confirmed the visit will not proceed. We will consider a remote inspection but will not guarantee being able to approve the work.

We will be restricting visits in homes and other businesses to essential activities that cannot be conducted remotely

Please be aware that your inspection will form one of a number that are planned on that day, if this is a concern then we will consider a remote inspection but will not guarantee being able to approve the work. 

 

Site Visit:

Site personnel need to follow social distancing rules and maintain a 2m separation, we will not shake hands and will decline offers of refreshments (please don’t be offended).

Inspections in buildings should be carried out by the surveyor unaccompanied, if at all possible. When accompanied a face covering must be worn. We require gates and/or doors to be left open to allow access. Windows and doors must be opened prior to and during the inspection to provide a good level of ventilation

We will aim to avoid contact with surfaces which are likely to be regularly touched unless it is necessary to ensure safety (such as hand rails on stairs, gates, doors, ladders and scaffold). We do have gloves, wipes, sanitiser and face coverings for personal use.

Building Control Surveyors reserve the right to terminate an inspection where they decide it is unsafe to carry out an inspection.  The inspection will need to be re-booked and work will have to be delayed until a re-inspection is satisfactorily completed. 

These temporary arrangements will remain in place until such time that the Government advises us that normal business arrangements can resume.
