COVID-19 Site Inspections Update.

Building Control Services continue as near to normal as possible

As you would expect we have however introduced measures to try to protect staff. This includes homeworking and risk assessing site visits.

Please help us by only contacting building control for advice, updates and inspection requests by email to: building.control@stroud.gov.uk or see the contacts page for surveyors mobile phone numbers

BUILDING REGULATIONS - TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENTS FOR SITE INSPECTION NOTIFICATIONS

With the change of emphasis from Stay Home to Stay Alert, for the Building Control service we have considered the relevant Government guidance:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/social-distancing-in-the-workplace-during-coronavirus-covid-19-sector-guidance#construction

https://www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk/news/site-operating-procedures-version-4-published/

and completed a risk assessment.

From the 2nd June 2020 the following inspections will resume, where these can be safely carried out following Covid 19 guidance.

Dangerous Structures

Excavations for foundations prior to pouring

Drainage bedded prior to backfilling

Oversite preparation prior to concreting

Structural timbers: floor joists and roof structures (from ground level where possible) prior to covering

Completion inspections on new build (empty) houses where these can be carried out by the surveyor unaccompanied. Windows and doors are to be opened prior to inspection.

Booking Inspections:

Please book inspections by email to building.control@stroud.gov.uk or using our on-line form: http://www.gbcpartners.co.uk/contact-us/ or by downloading and using the LABC App: https://www.labc.co.uk/homeowners/book-site-inspection . Inspection requests received before 10:00am will be schedule for the day requested, where possible. Please supply the following information to assist with your booking: Reference Number, Site Address, Your Name, Contact Telephone Number and Inspection being requested.

Before Visiting:

Prior to visiting to inspect building work, we will contact you with a time slot and also ask some Covid 19 related questions, to determine if anyone has symptoms of Covid-19; or is self-isolating following contact with a possible case or is in a vulnerable or shielded group. Where any of the above is confirmed the visit is unlikely to proceed and we will consider the inspection based on ‘stay at home’ guidance.

We will also remind you to inform site personnel of the need to practice social distancing and request that gates and/or doors are left open to allow access. You will also be advised that the inspection will form one of a number that are planned on that day, if this is a concern then we will consider the inspection based on ‘stay at home’.

Site Visit:

Site visits following social distancing guidance must be followed at all times. Building Control Surveyors reserve the right to terminate an inspection where they decide it is unsafe to carry out an inspection. We will aim to avoid contact with surfaces which are likely to be regularly touched unless it is necessary to ensure safety (such as hand rails on stairs, gates, doors, ladders and scaffold).

Completion inspections of extensions and internal alterations of occupied dwellings will be delayed where we are required to access your house to carry out the inspection. Please book the inspection in the usual way and we will record the inspection and contact you when we implement the ‘working in other people’s homes’ guidance.

These temporary arrangements will remain in place until such time that the Government advises us that normal business arrangements can resume.
